On Sunday 6th April 2014 Burneside Brass under the direction of Mr Laurie Johnston MD Burneside Brass took part in the South Cumbria Music Festival held in Ulverston. We had entered the Entertainment Class and the Open Class for Brass Bands.
The evening was adjudicated by Mr Alan Fernie a very well respected arranger of brass band music, our programme was the March Boots and Saddles Arranged by D Higson Solo Horn, Ticket to Ride Arr A Fernie, The Trombone Trio the Bold Gendarmes Arr E. Siebert and we concluded with A Three piece suite Northumbrian pipe tune music arranged by Mr L Johnston.

On adjudication the band were congratulated on presenting two well known brass band pieces of music and both Mr L Johnston and Mr D Higson were commended on their arrangements. Mr A Fernie said that it was very nice to hear new brass band arrangements, however due to a technical issue we missed out on being placed first.
For the open contest we presented the march Hoch Heidecksburg Arr L Johnston the hymn tune Eventide and A Malvern Suite which was the 2013 National Finals 4th section test piece.
Once again Mr A Fernie congratulated Mr L Johnston for his arrangement of Hoch Heidecksburg and the band was awarded the Ulverston Town Band Shield for gaining first place in the open Class.
