On Sunday 16th March 2014 Burneside Brass under the Direction of Mr Laurie Johnston competed in the 2014 North of England Brass Band Championships.
It was a very early start for the band as we had to be in Darlington at 8.30 for the playing order draw. We were drawn band number one which is not always the best draw to get, however we smiled and took the stage to present our test piece – Three Spanish Impressions to the expectant audience and the days adjudicator Mr David Hirst.
Once all the bands had competed it was back to the hall for the adjudication results, Dave French our solo Euphonium player was awarded The Ralph Bell Memorial Trophy for the second year in a row.
We were disappointed not to be placed in the first two places which would have meant a return trip to the National finals, however we did finish in 5th place overall.
Thanks to Laurie Johnston and all the band for all the hard work that has been done over the last few months preparing for this year’s Area’s.
