On Friday 17th June some members of Burneside Brass together with players from three other bands formed a scratch band so that we could take part in the 2011 Whit Friday Brass Band Contests.
We chose to play Westward Ho as the road march and Ravenswood as our contest march. Despite the poor weather forecast we were pleased that whilst we were contesting the rain held off. We started our Whit Friday contesting at Lees then moved onto Grotton, Greenfields, Dobcross and completed our contesting for this year at Delph.
It was a fantastic day out and a great experience to play in this world famous contest where people travel from all parts of the UK to compete and watch what is often described as ‘the greatest free show on Earth’.
