Sunday 4th and we played in the band stand at Grange-over-Sands. The sun shone, the audience clapped but the ice cream van failed to appear during the interval. Never mind we completed a very enjoyable afternoon in the park with our four soloist all playing well and the conductor keeping the crowd entertained with his comments in between the music. The audiance clapped along at the end as we played the Can Can, next time we will see if we can get some of them up dancing – be warned we are back in Grange in September.
Sunday 11th and a very sunny afternoon found us at St. Thomas’s Church in Kendal for their Party in the Park. Playing to a tight time schedule we managed to fit in some solo’s as well as general music. Harold Roberts played flugel horn for As Time Goes By, Mel Jeffry played The Acrobat on trombone and David French on euphonium played Myfanwy. For the last time in a while the band supported Sally Walker as she played If, Sally is flying off to Camp America for the summer and we will not have her wonderful playing until September although she has promised to keep in touch. Well done St. Thomas’s for organising a wonderful afternoon in the park, I’m sure Kendal folk appreciate it. Lets hope we all come back next year.
