We entered South Cumbria Music Festival on the 2nd and played in the afternoon entertainment class, which we had won for the previous two years. The band played four pieces which the new musical director had been working on in the last month, and were please to be awarded second place out of the five competing bands, although slightly disappointed to lose the trophy which we had kept for the past two years.
In the evening brass band class we played the an opening march called The Cossack and then an arrangement by Beverly Ann Stoll called A Slaidburn Festival Overture. As a hymn tune we played a Salvation Army arrangement of Shine Jesus Shine. I am very pleased to report that the adjudicator, Mr David Read, awarded us first place and presented us with a shield along with a very nice cash prize.
All in all a good day at a very friendly, well organised, competition.
