The year 2000 was a busy, successful and momentous one for Burneside Brass Band. We welcomed a number of new players this year. We gave concerts in Burneside, Staveley, Natland, Ambleside, Crosscrake, Ripon, Grange-over-Sands, Bowness and Windermere plus our first joint concert with the Burneside Choral Society in May. We entered contests at the South Cumbria Music Festival (5th place), Morecambe Music Festival (3rd), Kirkby Lonsdale (2nd), Ripon (6th) and Middleton in Teesdale. Chris Stoneham, our principle cornet player, won the best instrumentalist trophy at Kirkby Lonsdale, the third time that a Burneside Brass Band player has won this trophy. It is a great credit to all the players that their hard work should be so richly rewarded.
In July the members of the band unanimously decided to apply to the British Band Registry and register as a national 4th section band. This is akin to a football team in the GM Vauxhall Conference league going into the Football League proper. Our first ‘registered’ contest was at Fleetwood on Sunday 1st October 2000 where we achieved a outstanding 2nd place.
Burneside Brass Band is grateful to the family and friends of the Band members and to the residents of Burneside for their support and to the Burneside Cricket Club and St. Oswald’s Church for rehearsal facilities.
